There are two basic types of high-speed juicers: centrifugal juicers and masticating juicers.
Centrifugal juicers separate the juice of fruits and vegetables from their pulp as they are pressed down onto a spinning blade. Many centrifugal juicers come with a pulp ejector that ejects pulp into a container during the juicing process. Such juicers typically make it possible to produce a larger quantity of juice at one time, without having to stop and remove pulp to continue. Juicers in this category range in price from $50 to $400, depending on their features. If you intend to do a lot of juicing, we recommend models that come with a pulp ejector.
Masticating juicers chop, or masticate, fruits and vegetables at high speeds, creating a paste of pulp and juice. The juice is then squeezed out from the paste through a screen. Some types of masticating juicers come with a built-in hydraulic press that makes separating juice from the paste easier. Some of those juicers can be used to grind nuts, seeds, and sprouted grains, making it easier to produce fresh breads and butters. They typically range in price from $250 to $500.
In general, centrifugal juicers are faster, more likely to have pulp ejectors, and easier to clean up than the masticating models. Masticating juicers, operating at a slower speed than centrifugal juicers, heat the juicers less and tend to provide a greater juice output.
